Iron(II) oxide or ferrous oxide is the inorganic compound with the formula FeO. Its mineral form is known as wüstite. One of several iron oxides, it is a black-colored powder that is sometimes confused with rust, the latter of which consists of hydrated iron(III) oxide (ferric oxide).

It is used as a dye or pigment in pottery, glazes and glasses. It finds application as heat-absorbing glass used in buildings and automobiles. It is used as a precursor in the production of steel. It is also used in cosmetics and some tattoo inks. It can also be used for filtering phosphates from home aquaria and acts as a catalyst in a number of industrial and chemical operations.
