Tungsten Carbide Vs Diamond

Tungsten carbide and diamond are used for several different applications. The two materials have been widely used in building materials, electrical components, and musical instruments. In addition to their strength, both are durable and resistant to corrosion. They are commonly used in the manufacture of high-wear-resistant components.

Diamond and tungsten carbide are hard materials. Each has its own unique properties and uses. For example, tungsten carbide is used in the production of surgical instruments, such as scissors. It is also found in the manufacture of chisels, guitar slides, and ballpoint pen nibs.

These materials are highly resistant to corrosion, making them ideal for electrical components. In fact, tungsten carbide is the second most durable metal after diamond. However, it is not the most recommended material for zirconia grinding.

A study was conducted to evaluate the effect of diamond and tungsten carbide burs on the mechanical properties of zirconia. In particular, it was determined whether or not the burs reduced the flexural strength of the material. Additionally, it was determined if the burs caused striations in the grinding direction.

X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used to examine the surface roughness of the specimens. In addition, profilometer analysis was performed.

The results showed that the ultrafine grit of the diamond burs produced minimal differences in the mean surface roughness of the zirconia. The tungsten carbide burs did not cause any significant difference in the surface roughness. Nevertheless, they produced a more uneven surface finish.
