Application Titanium Aluminum Carbide:
During the oxidation process, Al in the MAX phase of ti-al-c system can be rapidly diffused and selectively oxidized to generate a dense layer of Al2O3 film, preventing further oxidation of the matrix material.The microstructure of the interface between titanium aluminum carbide (Ti3AlC2 and Ti2AlC) and the generated Al2O3 gives the system material the ability of self-healing at high temperature.In a high temperature environment, cracks or scratches on the surface of the material are filled with the oxide, thus restoring the original properties of the material, especially the mechanical properties.This characteristic is of great significance for maintaining the mechanical properties of materials, improving the stability and reliability of materials and making them more likely to be used in high temperature environments.

The rapid diffusion and selective oxidation of Al at high temperature of titanium aluminum carbide (Ti3AlC2 and Ti2AlC) results in the welding of the material itself and the welding between layers.The fracture toughness of titanium aluminum carbide (Ti3AlC2 and Ti2AlC) self-welded layered materials is greatly improved compared with single-phase materials.

Similarly, the weak binding between Al lamellar and TiC lamellar in titanium carbide (Ti3AlC2) in the MAX phase can be used to denudate Al in titanium carbide (Ti3AlC2) using hydrofluoric acid (HF) to prepare a new two-dimensional carbide, called "MXene", whose morphology is similar to graphene.MXene's good conductivity makes it a potential material for lithium ion batteries.

MAX phase products, especially titanium silicon carbide (Ti3SiC2), have high damage tolerance, good mechanical and thermal properties and a series of other characteristics, which may be used in the fourth generation of nuclear reactors, as the cladding material for nuclear fuel in gas-cooled fast reactor.In recent years, titanium silicon carbide (Ti3SiC2) has attracted more and more attention.
