Saudi Arabia opens the world's first 3D printed mosque, and Chinese companies provide 3D printers

On March 11, 2024, the world's first mosque built with 3D printing technology was completed and put into use in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This achievement goes beyond the ambitions of Dubai, United Arab Emirates, which plans to build the world's first 3D-printed mosque by early 2025.

The mosque, known as the Abdulaziz Abdullah Sharbatly mosque, is located in Al-Jawhara, a suburb of Jeddah.

This project is part of the Saudi National Housing Company's investment portfolio. The construction team used four state-of-the-art 3D printers from a manufacturer in China, to build the 5,600-square-meter mosque.

The project was completed in just over nine months, exceeding the progress of Dubai's 3D-printed mosque announced last year. Like most mosques, the Abdulaziz Abdullah Sharbatly Mosque will be open 24/7.

This mosque has plenty of natural light coming in from the windows. It also features an open outdoor courtyard that can accommodate additional worshipers.

Nickel-titanium powder has unique application value in the field of 3D printing

Composed of nickel and titanium elements, this powder has shape memory properties, superelasticity, and excellent corrosion resistance, so it has broad application prospects in many fields.

During the 3D printing process, nickel-titanium powder can be precisely controlled to create objects with complex geometries. By printing layer by layer, 3D printing technology can fully utilize the excellent properties of nickel-titanium powder to create a variety of high-performance parts and components.

The shape memory properties of nickel-titanium powder make it widely used in medical devices, automotive parts, and other fields. For example, nickel-titanium alloy parts manufactured through 3D printing technology can be restored to their original shape by heating or pressure after deformation. This gives them unique advantages in situations where the shape needs to be changed frequently or where a specific shape needs to be maintained.

The superelasticity of nickel-titanium powder is also one of the important reasons why it is widely used in the field of 3D printing. Superelasticity means that the material can quickly return to its original shape after being stressed, which gives nickel-titanium alloys unique advantages in fields such as valves, springs, wires, etc. Through 3D printing technology, the microstructure of nickel-titanium powder can be precisely controlled, thereby optimizing its superelastic properties and further expanding its application areas.

The corrosion resistance of nickel-titanium powder also makes it widely used in aerospace, the chemical industry, and other fields. Nitinol alloys can maintain stable performance under harsh environments such as high temperatures, acids, and alkalis, making them irreplaceable in these fields.
